Heart Rate

KayakNav can pair with most BTE heart rate monitor devices. Once paired, it will remember the device and automatically use it when it is being worn within range of your device. Every minute, it scans for the heart rate device and connects automatically. Please contact support if your device is not recognised.

Your heart rate will be recorded each time the data is sampled and can be emailed at the end of your paddle. It can also be displayed as you paddle in a left-shifting Info Cell graph along with the beats per minute. The info cell also shows the details of the connected device.

This feature will not function in flight mode or if bluetooth is disabled or your heart rate device has not been paired with KayakNav.

KayakNav provides an extra Bluetooth signal strength gauge to the left of the battery level. This indicates the strength of the received Bluetooth Heart Rate signal. It is shown here as BT with a blue outline representing zero signal strength (simulator mode).

More Details

KayakNav will automatically link to Bluetooth heart rate straps and log the current heart rate to both the CSV log file and display it on the screen in an info cell.

Only chest straps supporting the BTLE standard are currently supported.

To use a heart rate strap with KayakNav, just wet the contacts and fit the strap according to the manufacturer's instructons. Start KayakNav and it will automatically pair with the strap. If not already connected, it will check each minute for a strap.

The Bluetooth Indicator shown above appears at the top right of the screen and displays a bar indicating the signal strength of the chest strap and the colour of the bar changes to show connection details.

  • Disconnected - clear - KayakNav is not yet connected to a chest strap but will search periodically and connect automatically when one is found. It prefers to connect to the last connected strap to avoid linking to someone elses strap.
  • Scanning - amber - looking for a chest strap to connect to.
  • Connected - blue - paired and connected to a chest strap.
  • Simulated - light blue - simulation mode.
  • Unsupported - black - no bluetooth hardware was found.
  • Unauthorised - gray - you have blocked KayakNav from using Bluetooth on your device. Re-enable it in Settings.

If you can't connect your chest strap to KayakNav, check that it is BTLE compatible, you have a good (wet) connection to your chest and that the battery in the strap is not discharged. If you cannot get your strap working, send details of the device to support and we will see if it can be supported in a future release.
